"Little Things..."

This week has been a tough week for many reasons. I still struggle on a daily basis to connect with and understand my son. Sometimes I get to the point where I don't know if I can keep going and then God steps in to offer me little glimmers of hope.

For those of you who know me, you know that I am an eccentric, overly sensitive, sometimes irrational person who usually hasn't gone about life in the "normal" way. My Heavenly Father knows that about me. He created me that way. He also knows exactly how to correct me, encourage me, and speak to me in ways that only I would understand.

Now this story will probably sound a bit silly to you, but to me it is my "glimmer of hope" for the week and I wanted to share it.

After almost two years, my son very rarely will speak to me, look at me, or touch me. When I enter a room, he walks out of it. When I buy him presents, he destroys them. I am usually heart broken by the walls I can see that have been constructed around his little heart. I long to connect with him as a mom connects with her son. I want to feel his little boy hugs and kisses. I want him to allow me to comfort him when he gets hurt...but yet, he is not to that point yet. I get angry somedays, and oh so sad. And just when I think I can't keep going.....(here's the glimmer of hope part)....we were at Walmart today. I was in a hurry and needing to grab a bottle of my hairspray. It's a specific kind I use, and often it is out of stock. As I was looking through the bottles, I felt a little hand in mine.

"Here Mommy....here is your hairspray...."

Caleb handed me a bottle of the hairspray that I had been frantically looking for. Does he allow me to be his mom yet? No. BUT, he does notice what kind of hairspray his mommy uses and eagerly looked for it and found it for me without me asking.

This was God's way of saying...."hold on Comfort...this bottle of hairspray is just the beginning..."

There was a little girl, who had a little curl, right in the middle of her forehead...
and when she was good, she was very very good, but when she was bad, she was horrid...

"More Birthday Fun..."

Me: "How does it feel to be five years old?"
Dillan: "It feels good!"
Me: "Now, you realize that no matter how old you get, you will always be my baby...?"
Dillan: "Yep, I sure do!"
Me: "Promise me you won't grow up TOO fast..."
Dillan: "Moommm, I have to grow up fast so I can get married and then be able to kiss!" (J and I always joke with the kids that they can't kiss until they are married or 30 years old...)
Ah, Dillan. Our little firecracker. Our life is so much brighter with you in it!

"Water Balloons + Friday the 13th = ???????"

So yesterday was interesting...

The kids and I decided to have a water balloon fight in the backyard. We were having a great time until I decided to run inside, slip on our kitchen floor, and knock myself out. Charley was awesome and called 911 and I woke up to firemen and EMT's looking down at me. WHAT??? Long story short, went to the ER, had a couple of scans, and was released with pain killers and muscle relaxers.

I learned many important things yesterday. First and foremost being that I have amazing friends and family. When I called for help, I had an outpouring of people who were able and willing to help.

Second of all, there are so many hurting people in this world. As I looked around the ER, I was astonished at the amount of people coming and going who were obviously encountering some kind of pain. God help me to always remember those who struggle on a daily basis just to survive...

Third of all...NEVER EVER run on a wet tile floor. The results are not fun. I am so thankful that I didn't break anything and just ended up with some pulled muscles and a tweaked back.

Do I believe in Friday the 13th? I never have before. But I pledge now, that no matter what, I will never again play with water balloons on Friday the 13th...

"Hang in There Ole..."

"Seriously???????"

So as if yesterday wasn't hard enough with Ole, I had a interesting run in with an elderly woman at the store. Without going into details, I learned a very valuable lesson. Just because someone looks like a sweet old lady doesn't mean they are. Maybe it's her generation, or maybe she was just horrible by nature, but what makes and elderly person think they can say and do whatever they want? I've always been a person who respects authority, especially the older generation. But after yesterday, I will be more selective in whom I converse with.
(Just to give you a brief rundown of the conversation, she grabbed my stomache and told me I had a huge A$$).....Nice, huh?

"Please Pray for Ole..."

Poor Ole is very sick right now. He contracted a nasty virus that could potentially kill him. Please pray for him and that he will survive this. He is in the "doggy hosptial" right now. He will stay there for about 5 days and receive treatment. We really want him to pull though this as he has become a member of the family...we love you Ole!
